Jaan par Andre

I've had the intention to try the degustation menu ever since my lunch session at Jaan par Andre in August last year. The restaurant has been consistently garnering positive reviews. More notably, it was listed as the top fine dining restaurant for year 2009 by 2 famous food journalists on Sunday Times!

Am glad I could try it before I set off for London. Had a great time catching with HJ during our lovely dinner (which had stretched over 4 hours with our incessant chat!).

Here are the photos from our S$240 degustation set:

Pre-dinner Snacks

Crispy shrimp heads and baby radish in chocolate soil. It looked really cute! In the background, there were 3 types of wafer-thin crackers: baby shrimps, bamboo charcoal and chicken skin.

Lemon "sous vide"

Oooh... I really like this one. It was very light and airy (note: the 2 ends were hollow actually), and full of lemony zest!

Tomato Galore!

Very refreshing item. So many varieties of tomatoes, paired with tomato sorbet no less!

Pressed foie gras coated with Pedro Ximenez

Tarte Tatin Au Caviar

Mediterranean red prawn "Escabèche"

The prawns were really sweet... wished they had served us more of that!

Wild baby barracuda with Brittany wheat

I like the wheat on the side. It was toasted to a lightly crispy texture.

Wagyu beef with potato in 3 ways

Premium grade wagyu beef served medium rare. HJ finds the cut too fatty, but I love it of course!

Campari Pre-dessert

Chocolate Dessert aka "Snickers"

Petit Fours

Well, dinner at Jaan was certainly more impressive and elaborate than lunch. I didn't really like the service this time round though. We waited a long time for one course to show up. After the long wait, they simply jumped to the next course on the menu without informing us. Only upon our inquiry did they offer a mild apology. Hmmm....

Service aside, I did have a really good time that night. We ordered a nice bottle of wine... food was good and the company was better :)

What's next? Iggy's! I hope...

Update: WOW... Jaan par Andre has been honoured with the No.39 spot in the 2010's World's Top 50 Restaurants!
