The occasion? WL's BIG 3-O!!! KC was the surprise guest... and WL was genuinely surprised to see him waiting at the table when we walked into the restaurant! We were allocated to a table by the window, thus we enjoyed a fantastic view from the 70th storey. Pity it was a little hazy that day...

The 3 of us celebrated the special day at Jaan, which is now headed by the exciting new Taiwanese chef Andre Chiang! (He is tall, young and pretty cute with killer bod. I heard he's an ex-model?!) The hotel even renamed the restaurant to Jaan par Andre, and it has since received countless raving reviews!

We opted for the more affordable lunch menu because the degustation menus served during dinner are priced at a whopping $200 / $240 without wine pairing! On the lunch menu (reasonably priced at $58), there were 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts to choose from.

Fortunately, we had the perfect number of 3 dining at the table. So we simply told them to serve us all items on the menu that day, ha! And thanks to WL who took a photo of (KC holding) the menu, I didn't have to rack my brain hard to remember every single dish!

Citrus scented stone crab effiloche on potato confit and fresh herbs. Lukewarm potato mousse

Panache of seafood in multi textures, toasted brioche and potatoes, tapenade de Provence

Hot foie gras jelly topped wild mushroom tricassee under buckwheat brioche crust. Black truffle coulis
Oh I love foie gras!!! Excellent pairing with the "gravy" that's richly flavoured with mushrooms and truffles.

Popcorn ravioli with pan-roasted giant gambas in pancetta robe, crispy shellfish chips. Olive oil puree
The ravioli was a bundle of surprise! The creamy filling oozed out when you bite into it. I like the chips too. They were bursting with natural sweetness from the tiny shrimps.

Char-grilled Kurobuta cheek and romaine, caramelized baby onion and smoked basil oil
Note: Kurobuta is also known as black pig or Berkshire pig. This was my favourite main course! The meat had the perfect springy bite to it.

Thirty-six hour braised short rib, duxelle macaroni and crispy vitelotte chips and shallots
Mmmmm... melt-in-your-mouth... :)

Snickers version 2009
Oops, noticed the ice cream had melted considerably?! We were too busy taking photos!

Vintage chocolate spice ganache, milk marmalade ice cream

"Lemon tart" on mini churros, granite of pink Campari grapefruit
This was my personal favourite among the 3 desserts, probably because of my soft spot for anything citrous!

The lunch menu came with a bottle of water and tea/coffee, and the tea was from TWG no less!

Towards the end of the meal, the restaurant kindly served us a complimentary birthday "cake" for the birthday girl. That was definitely a very nice touch for patrons who are celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions at the restaurant.

Happy Birthday WL!!! Hope you have enjoyed your birthday meal as much as I did! Food aside, the wise men had said it's the company that counts right?!

PS: I'm sooo going back for the degustation menu! Bonus month?! :)
